Astros Team
The Fundación Astros del Futbol team consists of several Mexican World Class Soccer Legends, which includes Luis Roberto Alves "Zague", Manuel Negrete, Adolfo Ríos, Missael Espinoza, José Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre and Martin "Pulpo" Zuñiga. These Astros soccer all-stars are donating their time and efforts to promote and support Fundación Astros del Futbol through media tours, fundraising activities, and special events.
Luís Roberto Alves "Zague" (Born May 23, 1967 in Mexico City)
Zague played forward during 13 years with Atlante, Necaxa, and America. He obtained a record for club America striking 157 goals. Zague had a successful worldwide participation. During the 18 years of his pro career he scored 29 goals in 81 games played with the Mexican national team. Under his leadership, Mexico was able to make it to Copa America in 1993. He scored 7 goals in a game, which gave him a world record of goals by a single player in a game, and helped win 9-0 over Martinique. That same year, he won the Gold Cup with the Mexican team. He ended his professional career in 2003 and presently works as the Executive Director of Club America.

Manuel Negrete (Born March 11, 1959 in Altamirano, Guerrero)
Negrete began his pro career in 1980. His unique style gave him the recognition of fans. In 1986, he participated for the first time in the World Cup in Mexico. He was part of the Mexican star team, getting to semifinals. During a game against Bulgaria on June 15 1986, he scored one of the most remembered goals in the soccer history, being considered within the 10 best goals of all times. While playing with Pumas, the team won the league tournament in 1980-1981, and he was captain of the team from 1987 to 1992. Internationally, Negrete played with Sporting Lisboa in Portugal and Sporting Gijon in Spain.

José Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre (Born November 13, 1965 in Guadalajara, Jalisco)
José Manuel was part of the Club Deportivo Guadalajara, known as Chivas, when they won the league championship in 1985. Some years later, he won the winter tournament in 1998 with Necaxa. He was part of the technical team of Necaxa and America. In 2006, after being the assistant director of Hans Westerhof, Chepo became Chivas' technical director. Before directing Club America, he was very successful as technical director of Santos Laguna. Chepo is cousin to Eduardo "Yayo" de la Torre, other well known Mexican soccer player, and is the uncle of Antonio de la Torre, a Mexican-American player in the Major League Soccer.

Misael Espinoza (Born April 12, 1965 in Tepic, Nayarit)
Missael was an exceptional soccer player. He had a great individual ability, speed and technique. He began his pro career in Mexico playing for Monterrey in August 19, 1984. He also played for teams such as Necaxa, Leon, Queretaro, and Guadalajara. With the latter team, he won the summer championship in 1997, under the leadership of Ricardo "Tuca" Ferreti. He was also part of the United States' 1994 World Cup team for Mexico. In 1996 he played for San Jose in the MLS league, scoring 10 goals. In 2003, towards the end of his career, he played for the Trotamundos of Tijuana.

Adolfo Ríos (Born December 11, 1966 in Uruapan, Michoacan)
In 1985, Rios had his debut as professional soccer player. He was considered one of the best world goalies. Rios, who has great reflexes and physical strength, has played with UNAM, Veracruz, Necaxa, and America. With the latter, he won the Summer Championship 2002 and the league tournament while playing with Necaxa. He played 635 games total in First Division. Internationally he was recognized for his participation with the Mexican national team in Copa America 1997 and 1999.

Martin "El Pulpo" Zúñiga
Former goalkeeper for MLS' Chivas U.S.A., he previously played professionally in Mexico where he backstopped the Chivas team to the Mexican championship in 1997. That same year in 1997 Zuniga was selected to the Mexican national team to the Copa America. It was in Guadalajara that Zúñiga earned his nickname, 'El Pulpo' (The Octopus), using his remarkable reach to stop goals and lead Chivas to the finals of the 1997 summer and 1998 winter campaigns. He has also played for other professional teams in Mexico, including Tigres, Celaya and Puebla.
